Western Australia

Western Australia commonly known as WA with an area about 2.5 million km² is Australias biggest state and approximately seven times bigger than Germany. It comprises one-third of the complete land mass of Australia. With about 1.9 million inhabitants it is the least populated territory. Main emphasis of the settlement is the region around Perth and Fremantle.

Western Australia is characterized by extensive arid regions, like the Gibson Desert, Great Sandy Desert and the Great Victorian Deserts. Outstanding areas are the Kimberleys, the Pilbara region and the Nullarbor Plain. Western Australia is climatically subdivided into different zones. There is tropically hot monsoon climate in the north and there is an arid climate in the south and in the areas away from the coast.

The settlement by Europeans in this part of Australia took place during the gold rush at 1890. Western Australia gots numerous mineral resources like iron ore, Bauixt, nickel and different salts.

The tourism has always won more to meaning within the last few years. Highlights are the Ningaloo reef, the Karijini National Park, the Kimberleys, the Ord River and numerous beaches.
